oh! mother i can’t stand it

From the Greek Vault θα μπορούσαμε να πούμε για το πολυπληθές αγγλόφωνο κοινό, αυτή η ανάρτηση…ψέματα…βασικά νομίζω ότι έχει πολύ πλάκα το να διαβάζεις στ’ αγγλικά για ένα κομμάτι σαν το…Oh! Mother I Can’t Stand It ή αλλιώς Καλέ Μάνα Δεν Μπορώ, οπότε πάμε στις σημειώσεις που βρίσκονται μέσα στο Mortika: Recordings from a Greek Underworld, που είχε κυκλοφορήσει σε CD η Σουηδική Arko Records το 2005, και επανακυκλοφορήσει σε διπλό βινύλιο η Mississippi Records το 2009, και όπως μπορεί κανείς μάλλον εύκολα να καταλάβει από τον τίτλο της συλλογής αλλά και των κομματιών (ρίξτε μια ματιά στο tracklist) έχει να κάνει με μπαγλαμάδες και μπουζούκια τεκέδες και λουλάδες. Μια μικρή αναφορά είχαμε κάνει και τα παλιά τα χρόνια εδώ. 
Εκεί μέσα ανάμεσα σε τραγούδια του Κατσαρού, του Νταλγκά, της Παπαγκίκα, του Βαμβακάρη και άλλων υπάρχει τρίτο στην σειρά και το φονικό και αδέσποτο όπως διάβασα κάπου και μ’ άρεσε, ρεμπέτικο Καλέ Μάνα Δεν Μπορώ του Γιάννη Σπαχάνη.
Διαβάζουμε λοιπόν στα liner notes που είναι γραμμένα από κάποιον Tony Klein (και φυσικά οι γνώσεις μου πάνω στο θέμα δεν είναι τόσες πολλές, ώστε να μπορώ να πω αν είναι απολύτως σωστά ή όχι) : 

Oh! Mother I Can’τ Stand It, Spahanis, Yiorgios Manetas (bouzouki) Yannis Livaditis (tsimbalo), Athens c.1931. 

One of the real rarities on this CD, never before reissued, this is, according to Pennanen (see bibliography) the very first recording of the bouzouki in Greece (the other side of this 78 can be heard on Rounder 1120). Ted Kendall did a major job of salvaging the music from a very worn 78rpm record, the only known copy in existence.

Nought is known of “Spachanis” the singer, whose name presumably refers to Persian hashish from Isfahan. Manetas was one of the earliest mentioned bouzouki players in Piraeus, and, according to Vamvakaris and Keromitis, tho originator of what the early bouzouki players called the European tuning (DAD), so called because one could play in any key, whereas in the various older tunings –douzenia- one was limited to basic key of the instrument.
